Our workshops have been developed to provide a quiet day of creativity and gentle tuition and we hope the feeling of going home with a desire to learn more.

This one-day course aims to give a taster of the basic processes of mosaic making, ie sealing, cutting, laying, gluing, grouting.

You have the choice of one of the following base shapes:

· a rectangular or square plaque

· a beautiful little tray

· a large seahorse, or

· a large gecko

You don’t need to bring anything with you to the workshop, as all equipment and materials to create a beautiful mosaic project are provided and included in the course price.

For the first part of the workshop Sarah will explain the Direct Method of mosaicing and the processes involved. Following this, Sarah will explain the various types of tile nippers and their uses and then get you to use them to learn how to cut different shapes out of different types of tesserae (unglazed and glazed ceramic, vitreous glass, stained glass, mirror, etc). Towards the end of the workshop Sarah will give a grouting demonstration to show what you will need to do at home after the workshop (as you can only grout once all the glue is completely dry).

At the end of the class, you will take home your beautiful project, along with a bag of powdered grout and instructions, to enable you to finish your masterpiece at home once the glue is completely dry.

Please note that the base shapes are made of untreated MDF, so you will be able to paint them any colour you wish when you get home, to complement your mosaic design. Advice will be given on paints and sealants but please note these are not supplied.

The course focus is always on fun and friendly creativity with lots of personal tuition from an experienced mosaics artist.

FOOD: Teas and coffees will be provided throughout the day but we would suggest you bring your own lunch to the workshop. The class will be held adjacent to the marvellous Mulberry Tree Cafe, where if you prefer you can purchase reasonably priced and always delicious food.

The course cost includes materials, use of tools and refreshments throughout the day and class size is limited to 6 students so if you wish to book onto this class please use one of the date buttons at the top of the page
