Needle Felted Birds with Carol Coyne

1 Day Class - 10:00am - 4:00pm

£65.00 to include refreshments and all materials used on the day

----- Dates -----

Sun 26th May                      =               FULL

Felting is an ancient art form and can be used to create stunning decorations, novelty items and garments. Layers of wool fibres are worked together using barbed needles. The wool fibres twist and fuse together forming a beautiful natural material.

Carol Coyne is an experienced tutor with a passion for all things crafty, and just can’t resist trying out new techniques and materials.

All our workshops have been developed to provide a quiet day of creativity and gentle tuition and this class is a great workshop to introduce you to the art of 3D needle felting. You will be able to create your favourite bird, be it an owl, wren, robin or an imagined flight of fantasy. You will be guided through the techniques to sculpt the body and head, create the wings, tail and break, then finally given glass eyes and wire legs to complete your bird.

Specifically tailored to students with very little or no experience of needle felting this class is also suitable for those who want to improve their skills.

You don’t need to bring anything with you as all tools and materials will be provided. However, if you have a specific colour scheme in mind, please state this at the point of booking to ensure suitable fibres are available on the day.

The workshop starts with an explanation about the different types of fleece and fibre and the origins of the ancient art of felt making. Carol will then demonstrate and guide you through the needle felting techniques needed to create each part of your chosen bird. You will learn to sculpt and shape each piece, how to join them together and add fine details.

After lunch you will be shown how to add more detail and features to your piece and by the end of the day you will have a beautifully handcrafted bird to take home, along with the skills and knowledge to enable you to do more needle felting in the future.
