Jackie Ward (aka Treehuggery) is a materials led “works on paper” artist who takes inspiration from memorabilia and ephemera, particularly materials made redundant through changes in technology.
Caricatures waiting at bus stops are created from vintage bus tickets, musicians’ from music scores, cyclists from tax discs and runners and walkers from old maps. The effect is subtle, yet when realised, humorous.
“Working with found materials makes one more aware of how finite resources are. When one simply can't replenish supplies with a trip to the shops, everything is valued.”
In this one day workshop, you'll be able to recreate a scene from a holiday. Working from a photograph, or your memory if you prefer, Jackie will show you how to combine collage and sketch to create a meaningful piece of art.
You're welcome to bring along memorabilia and ephemera, (tickets, brochures, maps etc) to incorporate, and Jackie will help with ideas on how to use these items in a thoughtful way that takes into account their properties and the way they are printed.
Don't have any memorabilia to use? Don't worry, Jackie has plenty of vintage finds of her own that you can use.
At the end of the session you will go home with a framed and mounted piece of artwork that is truly unique and personal, and has the potential to be a very special gift.
The course focus is always on fun and friendly creativity with lots of personal tuition from an award winning collage artist.
