If you are looking for a learning experience that will open your senses to creativity, initiative and enjoyment then this is the workshop for you!
The peyote stitch, also known as the gourd stitch, is an off-loom based technique used to create colourful and intricately patterned jewellery
Many cultures around the world have used peyote stitch in their beadwork from artifacts in Ancient Egypt, to historic and contemporary Native America beadwork.
The term "peyote stitch" derives from the use of this stitch to decorate objects used in Peyote ceremonies by members of the Native American Church while the term "gourd stitch" similarly derives from the use of the stitch in decorating gourd containers
In the morning you will learn more about peyote stitch, a simple but necessary stitch that will help you understand the basics of beading. After some initial tuition you will start constructing your own bracelet, choosing your colours and pattern from a selection of examples supplied by Claudia. You are welcome to bring your own design to work on.
After a short break for lunch you will continue to complete your bracelet and add clasps and findings so your piece will be ready to wear
Everything is provided for the class including your own kit of, beads, thread, felted mat, needle, clasp and hand out instructions, along with Claudia’s years of knowledge on this historic skill.
