Stained Glass Evenings

with Jen McEwan

6 Week Evening Class (Tues 7pm - 9pm)

£190 (to include some material costs)

Our evening classes have been developed to provide an opportunity for creativity and gentle tuition and we hope the feeling of going home with a desire to learn.

This 6 week evening class aims to equip you with the skills to create wonderful projects and inspire you to design and create your own pieces.

In the first 2 weeks we will learn specific Tiffany stained glass techniques and create your own small sun catcher using one of Jen’s own designs. The remaining 4 weeks, with the help of Jen , you will be able to design and make your own suncatcher, lantern or tealight.

Each session will last approx. 2 hours and don’t worry if you miss a week, there should be plenty of time for individual instruction. If you have been to any of the previous one day workshops that have been held at Created By Hand then, after a brief catch up, feel free to start off with your own projects from week one

Session 1- introduction.

In the 1st session we will learn some history about stained glass. Then learn about the tools and materials needed.  After a short  demonstration on how to score and break glass safely you will get the chance to practice your cutting skills. You will then be shown how to cut out pattern pieces and use the grinding machines. You will then get to choose a simple design and start to cut out your pattern pieces.

(I will bring many pattern books for you to get ideas for your own project or to use if you so wish.)

Session 2- continuing from session 1

In this session we will learn how to foil our pieces of glass and solder them together to complete our suncatchers. They will then be ready to take home. Bring your ideas for your personal projects and we will go through designing and ordering glass.

Session 3-6 freestyle (your choice)

This is where you get to complete your own stained glass projects.

General notes.

Tool and glass will be supplied for session 1-2 and are included in the course price. You will be required to buy your own materials for your personal projects, foil, solder, flux and some glass can be brought from Jen or you can source it yourself.
